HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHEVY ** WE LOVE YOU!
On September 10, 1996 a very special puppy was born.  When he came into this world, God had a plan for this little blue boy.
God knew of a girl who would be in need of an angel soon.  This girl lived in Texas, and this special puppy was born into a wonderful
family in Michigan. So many miles separated them, but they were destined for each other. This angel would be named "Chevy."
Before these 2 would meet, Chevy had places to go and shows to win! A couple of years later, this angel would "fly" to Texas to meet
the girl who so needed him.  The two of them became inseparable....shows, obedience, therapy work.  Soon, they had to pack up and move
to Alabama. Chevy was the strength the girl needed to get through this move. God knew of the rough roads this girl would have in her life.
He had a purpose for his special angel.  He just did not know how much this girl would actually love and need her blue boy.  He became her
heart and her soul. To this day, Chevy remains her special angel.  But now he has another purpose....the best friend of a special 2 1/2 year
old boy. Chevy is truly my angel.  Most people rescue dogs....but Chevy "rescued" me.  Thank you, Ellen.  He changed my world for the better,
and I can never thank you enough for him.
HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY, CHEVY!!!!!!!!  Many, many hugs, Christa

CH Thornapple End Of The Rainbow CD CGC ThD RN

GOOD NEWS from BETSY HAMKENS & RAIN ***
Well, this was quite an exciting weekend or should I say interesting.:)))  Friday evening before the weekend shows I was doing a CGC evaluation for the club.  The last dog was the weekend judge who joked he was judging this weekend so I should be very careful how I judged him so I told him if he passed me on Saturday, I would pass him on his CGC test.  I no sooner got that out of my mouth when I tripped on a mat and fractured my wrist.  Needless to say, after all the training I have been doing with Rain, I bought a wrist splint and visited a couple nurses at the show and chose to stay at the show to compete in 4 events.  Can't keep a dog person down!  On Saturday, there was a four way runoff for first place and Rain was in that.  He did a SPECTACULAR job on his run out but come time for the runoff of which we were not prepared was eventful.  Mr. Rain decided it was lap time:)))  We ended up with 4th place out of 16 dogs so I was well pleased.  He received a perfect score in Rally.  There were 5 perfect scores out of 15 dogs so they went by time and there was only about 1 tenth of a second between all 5 of us so Rain received a number 4 placing in that event.  Sunday, Rain was loaded for bear.  You might say, since it was a cool beautiful day and he was feeling his oats so I was worried about losing him on the off leash part of the performance.  He was HOT TO TROT but was able to compose himself and earn a 3rd place again out of 16 dogs.  The Rally he did very well but his handler (yours truly) lost him some points or again, he would have had a perfect score.  Well, to sum it up, we had a GREAT weekend aside from the wrist, so Rain earned his Companion Dog Title with wonderful runs!  Did it in three shows, too!  So, you can add a CD to his name:)))  Hope you had as good a weekend as Rain and I did.  Thanks for letting me share.  Betsy
We are thrilled to hear of Rain's new title!  So sorry to hear of your wrist injury!
You are a true believer of the Show Must Go On, Betsy!
CONGRATULATIONS, Betsy & Rain!

The Book PETA and HSUS Don’t Want You to Read
We never thought we’d wade into the politics of pet shelters, but the decidedly unethical treatment of a van-load of pound puppies in 2005 by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) employees radicalized us. Despite PETA’s habit of killing upwards of 90 percent of the dogs, cats, puppThe Book PETA and HSUS Don’t Want You to Readies, and kittens it takes in, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk conceded in 2000 that her organization “could become a no-kill shelter immediately.” (Such a shift of budget priorities, of course, would require the jettisoning of some of PETA’s more obnoxious campaigns and obnoxious campaigners.) The image of PETA blissfully slaughtering adoptable pets is a fair definition of hypocrisy. But just when we thought we had heard the worst of it, along comes Nathan Winograd.
Winograd’s
book, available for purchase this month, is titled Redemption. He argues, quite effectively, that the concept of “pet overpopulation” in the United States -- that bogeyman that PETA and the Humane Society of the United States constantly use to justify an inordinate focus on dispatching dogs and cats to the great beyond -- is a myth. Every year, Winograd claims, there are actually more Americans looking for pets than animals needlessly killed in shelters. We read Redemption and we absorbed Winograd's prescriptions for change. We were touched. We asked the author to answer some tough questions about his claims. And he said yes.
Click here to read the Consumer Freedom interview with Nathan Winograd. And click here to buy his book. It’s the one thing PETA and HSUS are hoping you won’t read this year.
